What Was Your Life Like Before Your Transformation?

Growing up, I was always active and playing sports with my friends. I also love the outdoors, especially hiking in the mountains. Well, the year I graduated college, I started working a desk job, my diet consisted of Mountain Dew and fried foods, and my level of activity plummeted.

After work, instead of going out into the mountains, I stayed inside and played Xbox. Needless to say, the pounds started to pack on. I started to feel tired all the time, and I could also feel myself becoming more negative. I was always a very positive person, so I did not know why I was feeling this way.

I was in a vicious cycle because I was tired at work, so I would drink another soda, then I
would gain more weight, and feel even more tired throughout the day.

Please Detail Your Turning Point

My turning point happened after a series of events. The first time I realized that i was out of shape, was when I went on a winter hike with my Aunt. It should have been an easy hike, but man it seriously kicked my butt. I felt like i was going to die, and I remember just being brutally exhausted when I got home.

But still, I was not motivated to do anything about it. The next event that really made me
realize how much weight I had gained was about a month later. I went to a business seminar, and I wore the same suit I wore to graduation. However, this time it was super tight on me, and I was actually in pain towards the end of the day.

Did i go home and start working out after this? Nope. It was not until my brother came to me and said “Dude, there is three months until Nicole’s Wedding. P90X3 is exactly 90 days long. Let’s get totally ripped for her wedding.” We started on Monday, and I have not stopped since.

What Were Your Major Struggles or Challenges?

The major struggles I had were actually completing the workouts in the first few weeks. Those were the hardest 30 minutes of my life. But, I got stronger, and day by day, I made it a little further in every workout.

It was also very hard to resist the urge to drink soda/eat fast foods, but I stayed strong still to this day, I have not gone back.

Detail Your Workout and Cardio Plan During Your Transformation

In the first year, I did a lot of programs like P90x3, Insanity, 21 day fix, and then I did Body Beast, which taught me about lifting. I fell in love with the weights. I have been doing my own weightlifing program that is a mix of common bodybuilding workouts, mixed with the three big power lifts.

I also do cardio about three times a week. I don’t have to much going on besides work, so I get to lift about 6 days a week.

Detail Your Diet/Eating Plan During Your Transformation

When I first started, I made a decision to cut out a lot of junk foods. I stopped drinking soda, stopped eating fast foods. Instead, I drink water all day long, I eat more fruits, and I stick with whole grains. I even started liking broccoli. I also track my macros every day, which helps me stay on track.

Detail Your Supplement Plan During Your Transformation

When I started lifting, i wanted to find some good whey protein. I decided to give MTS a try, because Chris Jones and POG always talked about how good it was. I ordered some cookies and cream, and I fell in love. I also have been using MTS Drop Factor/yohimbine, I tried Clash, Vasky, and have recently fell in love with Ruckus.

What Was Your Major Accomplishment, or Major Milestones?

My major accomplishment was hitting 85 total pounds lost, and being at my lowest weight since high school. I am now working on dropping my body fat to 10% or less. I am also working on increasing my three big lifts.

Detail Your Biggest Mistakes

My biggest mistake was letting myself get that over weight in the first place. Other than that, I dont really remember too many other mistakes. There were many ups and downs throughout my journey, but I never gave up. Lifting got me through some rough times over the past year.

3 Biggest Things You Learned During Your Transformation?

The biggest lesson I learned is that change takes time, hard work, and dedication. You have to have a long term goal in mind, and not just lose weight for a certain event.

Another lesson I learned, is that you cannot go on a diet or short term fast and expect long term changes. You really have to change your lifestyle in order to achieve the long term goals. You have to create habits that will allow you to continue to make progress years into the journey.

The third thing that I learned is that this kind of change is very hard to do alone. It really helped me to have a group of people in my life that had similar interests, and we could lift each other up if we were feeling down.

Final Words of Advice for Others Looking to Make a Change?

A final piece of advice is to never give up. I know that seems simple, but many people say they want to make a change in their life, but give up after a few weeks because they are not seeing any changes. This does not happen overnight, so have trust in the system, and stick with a program.

Also, it helps to take pictures in measurements as well as using a scale to measure your progress. Pictures will show more progress than the scale will. The scale cant be trusted.
