How Does Berberine Work?

Berberine has the unique ability to increase an enzyme called Adenosine Monophosphate-Activated Protein Kinase (AMPK), while also inhibiting Protein-Tyrosine Phosphatase 1B (PTP1B).  When AMPK is stimulated, glucose uptake in muscle cells increases via the GLUT-4 transporter.
